Canada's historians, through their professional association, the Canadian Historical Association, have chosen to mark Canada Day this year by releasing a statement about the role of genocide in the country's past.

UPDATE: Looks like the CHA's official statement has stirred up a bit of a fracas among academic historians in the country, some of whom are unhappy with the term genocide, some of whom challenge the CHA's right to speak for the profession at all. You can follow the debate here and here.
